WARNING : The nominal basis of compagnons which you are about to consult is the result of diverse sources (archives of the retirement fund of “Le Ralliement des compagnons du Devoir”, lists of weavers and saddlers, compagnons who died in 1914-1918 War, compagnonnique press…). In principle, you will not find compagnons who are still alive. This database does not include every compagnon which ever existed. The records are often incomplete, for lack of sources. Nonetheless, this database is regularly updated. You can help us completing the records by sharing your own family information, and you can even illustrate them with portrait photos. List of guild members' names?

The elaboration of lists of compagnons’ names is a fastidious task that was started only recently by a few researchers. From the archives of the department of Vaucluse, Jean-Michel Mathonière and Laurent Bastard gathered more than a thousand nicknames and some names of the stonemason ‘compagnons passants du Devoir’.  These figure in the appendix to their work, Travail et Honneur (Work and Honour), published in 1995 and put online by J.-M. Mathonière. Thanks to the patient work of a few compagnons, the museum has lists of harness-makers, weavers and joiners (incomplete, as one may expect) that are progressively integrated to the present website.
