Other types of workers' associations
Finally, it should be noted that other types of workers’ associations existed, especially in the 19th century, alongside or in competition with the guilds. The emblems used by these associations were sometimes, at least in part, the same as those used by guild members. There were numerous societies of “foxes” among carpenters, within the Worker’s Union of the Tour de France, and within certain mutual aid societies and fraternal associations. While they had goals similar to those of the guilds (mutual aid), they did not hold initiation ceremonies and, in fact, practised few rituals.
